I’ve been shuffling between English or Vietnamese for this post. I think it’s because I have so many different schools of thought in my head right now. But it’s ok, I decided to turn to English. I guess it comforts me in the sense that I don’t have to feel it so deeply for what I’m about to write. Or maybe it actually gives me deeper touch when I just wrote with the language I use every day. Anyway, it’s fine anyhow.
It’s been quite some time I didn’t write on this blog. Not because I don’t want or have anything to share. It’s because I have had enough procrastination for other things. It’s because I think, I was chasing the word “temporary” or “permanent”. The TIME aspect.
Funny that when I read HOW TO FOCUS – the latest ebook I got from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, there is actually no limited TIME and SPACE. And I trust him, I trust his wisdom. So his words. When we are mindful enough on our breath, on the present moment, that is the only true time we are living. Not past, not future, but now. And hence, we are touching the race of time. It’s similar to space I think. I just forgot what it was about Space.
So What’s about it? What’s about this permanent thing?
This morning when I learned about other colleague, a senior and quite respectable one, is leaving us very soon; I just realized that she was in a temporary position with our organization. Even though her “temporary” time seems longer, it’s supposed to be until end of next year. And mine is until end of this year.
What can we say here?
That temporary is not because you are not good nor your position is not important. That temporary status can be in a shorter timespan or in a longer one. That temporary status actually gives you something ahead of time to prepare for your next move. That being aware of temporary state gives you more thought and so you treasure every moment, every chance that you have. And that temporary in one organization is the greatest reminder of building your not-so-temporary asset: your own business.
Today I also received picture of the bag sent from OWDxAFD with my name on it. It was a gift to me as a host to OWD Birthday workshop. I also received some monetary reward from the workshop as well. Not much, but it kind of warmed my heart. I must say that once you are free from money and the material world, you then know how to use this energy to spill some happiness and bonding to others. 😀
Prior to the bag’s arrival at my home, one member from the organizer asked me
“What’s your motto about being a Freelancer?”
One member from AFD asked me
I remembered in early 2022, I said “If you aspired to be free from everything, you must be able to feel worried and get your sh*ts together. You cannot just be this laid back and live a relaxing life.”
But recently, I changed. I answered her
“Once you are a happy freelancer, it also means that you are leading a life well lived.”
I like the later statement more. Spending months fully employed and working with some freelance projects, I understand deeply the word “FREEDOM” and I know its worth. It’s really the way one should lead their lives.
After all, we are temporary living beings on this planet. Everything is temporary until something becomes permanent. The job, the title, the money, you name it. But at least, we know there are things now that’s worth fighting for. For a little longer temporary time. Our freedom in this lifetime. So live your worth. No matter how long or short, everything’s temporary. Make every moment counts. And be patient to go through the whole journey together. Once you are stepping on this road, you could already feel the joy of freedom.
